"Firefly"
Written by Steve Poltz ("You Were Meant for Me" by Jewel), and Maia Sharp (The Dixie Chicks, Cher, Trisha Yearwood).
My sweet friend, Steve Poltz, came to me and suggested I record "Firefly", which he wrote with Maia Sharp. I listened and totally agreed. Love this song. Its lyrics really spoke to me.
Lyrics
"Firefly"
by Steve Poltz & Maia Sharp
I'm way down here, you're way up there
I don't like heights and I'm feeling scared
Got a trampoline to call your bluff
Didn't quite get me high enough
Ahhh Ahhh Ahhh Ahhh Ahhh
Verse
So I made some wings of feather and glue but when I got too close to you
It melted off and fell apart and left me falling fast and hard
Like a firefly, tried to fly too high
Chorus
High in the thin air
Why, cause I put you there
You're too beautiful to be reachable and it's so unfair
If I let you come down, I could stop flying around, like a firefly,
Verse
Big ol moon and whip cream sky
I could push the clouds with a heavy sigh
Drops of rain and buckets of doubt
That's when I started burning out
Like a firefly, tried too fly to high
Ahhhh Ahhhh Ahhhh Ahhh Ahhhh Ahhh
Verse
I'm all aglow, my fuses are bright
buzzes are loud but I won't bite
A couple of feet above the earth
Come on down and I'll make it worth your while
Chorus
High in the thin air, why, cause I put you there
You're too beautiful to be reachable and it's so unfair
If I let you come down, I could stop flying around, like a firefly, like a firefly
OOohhh ooohh ooohh
